The result is a bold, flexible identity system that gives Haverstraw a consistent, confident way to introduce itself — humming with culture, unmistakably real, and ready for what’s next.

Brand Strategy & Positioning

The brand pillars capture what sets Haverstraw apart: a village that was once the brickmaking capital that built New York City, now humming with global flavors, street murals, and three miles of open Hudson shoreline. This strategy gives the Village a shared foundation to compete for attention as a creative alternative destination in the Hudson Valley.

Haverstraw, NY Community Branding

Destination by Design partnered with the Village of Haverstraw to build a community brand around what sets it apart from every other Hudson Valley river town: a rare combination of multicultural vibrancy, brickmaking heritage, and creative energy. The result gives Haverstraw, New York a bold, flexible visual identity that residents, business owners, and visitors can recognize instantly, from the ferry terminal to the downtown storefronts.

New York Community Branding & Destination Marketing

Hudson Valley towns are competing harder than ever for visitors and creative entrepreneurs, and Haverstraw’s positioning gives it a real edge. DbD’s community branding and destination marketing work gave the Village a wave-motif logo system — a primary wordmark, secondary mark, stacked mark, compact logotype, and emblem — built to carry Haverstraw’s raw, uncurated energy across signage, wayfinding, and print.

Community Branding for Local Economic Growth

A clear village brand does more than look good — it gives Haverstraw a shared foundation for tourism, economic development, and investment along its three miles of Hudson riverfront. DbD’s brand strategy identified the qualities that make the Village distinct — multicultural vibrancy, brick history, creative energy, and river connection — and translated them into a framework the Village can use with confidence.

What is Community Branding?

Community branding is the process of defining and visually expressing what makes a place distinct, then building a consistent system — logo, color, typography, imagery, and voice — that local government, businesses, and residents can all use. For the Village of Haverstraw, that meant translating brand pillars like Multicultural Vibrancy, Brick History, and Hudson Riverfront Connection into a wave-motif logo system, a 13-icon wayfinding set, and a color palette that feels authentically Haverstraw rather than generic.

Where is Haverstraw, New York?

The Village of Haverstraw sits in Rockland County in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley, at one of the widest points of the Hudson River, across from High Tor Mountain. A ferry terminal connects the Village directly to Westchester County and offers a commute to New York City in under an hour, while three miles of riverfront parks and trails run along its shoreline.
