With the acquisition of multiple new park properties and the development of Legacy Park—a destination-quality mountain bike park within the town limits—Destination by Design was brought on board to help usher in a new era for its more than 750 acres of parkland and help chart a new path to connectivity with the outdoors.
The
Challenge
The City and Township of Northville each brought unique histories and aesthetics, making it essential to develop a brand and signage system that could blend traditional character with modern energy. The team also needed to address the practicalities of wayfinding, maintenance, and accessibility; ensuring that every park, from expansive forests to intimate pocket parks, felt unified and inviting for all residents and visitors.

Brand Discovery & Strategy
The brand discovery began with in-depth site visits, stakeholder interviews, and a comprehensive audit of existing assets to capture Northville’s parks and community aspirations. Through collaborative workshops and focused discovery sessions, the team defined a brand vision rooted in wellness, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity.

Logo Design
The art direction draws inspiration from Northville’s automotive heritage and the adventurous spirit of its residents. The “N” lettermark, inspired by the community itself and the idea of a traveling path, became a unifying symbol woven into signage elements throughout the park system.

Signage Design & Construction
The signage was designed to be as functional as it is beautiful: natural wood tones with a modern edge, durable aluminum for easy maintenance, and river stone bases that pay homage to local history, especially at Ford Park, where the stonework echoes the legacy of one of Henry Ford’s factories. Each sign, from gateway kiosks to trail markers, reinforces a sense of place and belonging, while the consistent use of the “N” ensures visitors always know they’re in a Northville park.
As Northville doubles its park acreage and invests in new amenities, the unified brand and signage system will guide residents and visitors along scenic trails and to tranquil natural escapes—all within a short walk or bike ride from historic downtown.
