The landscape at Mt. Jefferson

I decided to take a Friday off in late October to enjoy the cool weather and peak leaf color. I chose to visit Ashe County Park for its views and the challenging 18-hole disc golf course. The wooded portion of the course made locating poorly thrown discs more difficult, but since I had the course mostly to myself, I could take as much time as I needed at each hole.

On the way out, I decided to stop at Mt. Jefferson to take in the view, and enjoy a short hike on the Summit and Rhododendron Trails. Both trails lead to northeast facing views, but access to the Summit Trail view is restricted by tree cover. My mind immediately went to the recent Howard Knob Park improvements and the viewing platform there. It would be amazing to see a smaller version of this viewing platform installed at the end of this trail.
